Film is one of the greatest pastimes. It takes us to worlds beyond our imagination. It introduces us to cultures that shaped the world as we know it.
This is why I love the Oscars. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to appreciate them even more. So as soon as I the nominations come out I try and make a point to watch the ones that interest me.
This year I didn’t get to watch as many as I would have liked to. But to be fair, I was (and usually am) extremely busy. And of course, they’re always available to watch even after the Oscars airs.
I have to say that this year’s nominations were exceptional. Some years don’t have as many that I’m interested in, but such wasn’t the case this year. My list definitely got longer, but they’ll be perfect movies for weekend nights as the winter comes to an end.

What’s on my “watch” list:
Not so subtle hints toward recent political events.
I think the following gifs speak for themselves…
Jimmy Kimmel LIVE tweets President Donald Trump.
Jimmy Kimmel noticed that President Donald Trump had been peculiarly silent on Twitter. (Despite the insistent dropping of subtle hints by numerous stars regarding recent political events.) He took a moment to tweet the president, a moment that will forever go down in history as the first time anyone has trolled the President LIVE at the Oscars.
Jimmy and Sunny Pawar recreate the Lion King introduction.
Sunny Pawar is the definition of ADORABLE. He just makes you want to smile.
Mean tweets #Oscars version.
I don’t know why it’s so funny when stars read mean tweets about themselves. It just is, especially when it involves Ryan Gosling.
Finding out that famous people are actually humans too.
Can we stop focusing on the brief moment the flag brushed the side of Auli’i Cravalho’s head, and start focusing on this. moment. right. here?
Sighing with relief after singing “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney’s, Moana.
This was probably one of my favorite moments of the night. Benj Pasek keeping it 💯.
He followed it up with an amazing tribute to his mom. “To all the kids who sing in the rain and to all the moms who let them!”
Poor Matt Damon.
Matt Damon seemed to be the brunt of everyone’s jokes.
The Biggest Oscar Mistake of All Time…
Talk about awkward. About halfway through La La Land’s acceptance speech for Best Picture, they were interrupted due to a mix up with the winning envelope and had to hand over the Oscar to ‘Moonlight’. Everyone thought it was a joke.
Even I thought Jimmy Kimmel had something to do with it. Turns out, it was an honest mistake.
And everyone else was like…
